VIVAnews - Up until today, a series of violence in Aceh has claimed 13 lives of civilians. As many as 13 others were wounded.
Chief of Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police, Comm. Gen. Sutarman, said the victims of violence are commonly from a certain ethnic group. "Perhaps, the crimes were committed by certain group to terrify people," he said today, Jan 12.
"The current situation is created to intimidate people, an attempt to ruin the local elections," said Sutarman.
The coming elections are also expected to witness possible conflicts.
The Aceh police are monitoring all communication in the province. "We can monitor the culprits. The Special Detachment force has also been deployed to the area," he said.
The Indonesian Police Headquarters, he said, will also send enforcement to the province.
