VIVAnews - High precipitation as well as the overflowing river have inundated several regions in five regencies and municipalities of Riau such as Pekanbaru, Indragiri Hulu, Pelalawan, Kampar, and Rokan Hulu, affecting more than 13 thousand families.
Riau Governor Rusli Zainal told reporters on Monday, Jan 4, that Indragiri Hulu is the worst area affected by the flood.
"Nine subdistricts in Indragiri Hulu are affected by the flood which inundate 56 villages and 5,661 families," he said.
Five subdistricts in Pelalawan Regency including 17 villages are also hit by the flood.
"Aid has been distributed to the affected areas such as food and clothes," said Rusli Zainal.
