VIVAnews - Wikipedia Indonesia has put online more than 119 thousand articles in bahasa Indonesia referring to a record made in March 2010. An average of 1.2 million visitors access the site every day.
"However, those editing the published articles more than three times a day are only around 30 people," said Wikimedia Indonesia Executive Secretary Siska Doviana in Jakarta, March 30. "The percentage has been stagnant as of 2005 and tends to decrease," she said.
According to Siska, the falling number of active users affects the number of new submitted articles as well as their quality in Wikipedia Indonesia.
Therefore, Wikimedia Indonesia holds Bebaskan Pengetahuan (literally Free Your Knowledge) 2010 as an effort to take in talented young volunteers to spread their knowledge and improve the articles in store by using Indonesian through the Internet.
Wikipedia Bahasa Indonesia was initiated in May 2003. As early as 2004, the site was ranked 50. Now, it seats on the 25th position.
In addition to the Indonesian version, Wikipedia also houses articles written in Javanese amounting to 26,503 articles; Sundanese (14,556 articles); Banyumas (3,162 articles); Acehnese (1,150 articles); Bugis (216 articles), Malay (62,050 articles).
