VIVAnews - Despite the constant delay in the opening of Yahoo’s official branch office in Indonesia, the company will create Indonesian signature content with the help from local bloggers.

The announcement was made by Yahoo! Indonesia Country Editor, Budi Putra during a press conference at Kembang Goela Restaurant in Jakarta on Thursday, April 8.

“Bloggers are important stakeholders. Indonesia has now become the Blogger Republic. Yahoo! will also provide original content by involving Indonesian bloggers,” Putra, who is also known as Indonesian senior blogger, said.

According to him, Yahoo! has been working together with local media partners in becoming an Indonesian news aggregator. Thus, Yahoo! does not intend to produce local news content, which may overshadow news content on their partners’ sites.

“We don’t want to go head-to-head with our media partners. That’s why we approach the bloggers,” Putra said. However, it would not be Yahoo’s first time to produce their own content.

They have created several specialized online portals like Shine, which focuses on women, sports site Rivals.com and entertainment news portal OMG. Yahoo! has also planned to launch a political blog.

Nevertheless, the plan of teaming up with the bloggers would be Yahoo’s first project in providing their own news content in Bahasa Indonesia. Unfortunately, Putra would not give further details on the concept that would be developed by the bloggers.

He did, however, say that Yahoo! Indonesia would provide a website especially dedicated to the World Cup. The site would be filled with local content on the World Cup, just like the General Elections website back in 2009.

As a highly popular Internet company in Indonesia, Yahoo! claims itself as the market leader in email and instant messaging services in the country. In 2010, it was estimated that no less than 15 million Internet users were also Yahoo! service users.

Putra explained that Yahoo! is also working on Single Sign-on project with their media partners. The project allows the readers to give comment on a news item and share it with their Yahoo! network directly from the portal.

Yahoo! Indonesia was also said to be intensively establishing collaboration with Indonesian developers to present other types of local content.

At the Yahoo! Open Hack Day in Jakarta last November, Yahoo! SEA Developer Network Director, Michael Francis Smith Jr said Yahoo was preparing the integration of local content startup in Yahoo!, such as Urbanesia.

It is possible that the launch of collaboration with other local partners would also wait for the opening of their office in Indonesia. “We’ll give the information on the opening of our office in a short time”, Putra said.
