"We have 10 power plants. Three of them will be offered to international tender so that the operator will not be PLN but private company. This will also be the standards of whether or not the operation and maintenance of PLN have been efficient," said PLN President Director Fahmi Mochtar at the Department of Energy on Wednesday, Dec 17.

According to him, it will be the solution of PLN's electricity development which in the next 10 years will need US$60 billion. "Therefore, we'll need US$5 billion to US$6 billion in a year. That is huge," he said.

In addition to matters on capacity, PLN requires 57 thousand Megawatts. It means that each year, it will need six thousand Megawatts. "PLN does not provide all of them. Private electricity company will give assistance," said Mochtar.

In offering the power plant tender, PLN will be cautious so that it will not affect national electricity system.

As for other power plants, PLN will surrender Labuan Power Plant, Indramayu Power Plant and Rembang Power Plant to its subsidiaries PT Indonesia Power and Java and Bali Power Generation Company to operate the three power plants.
