VIVAnews - The trial on the killing of TV Mandiri Papua journalist Marlon Mra-mra at Jayapura Public Court on July 7 was filled with unexpected clashes.
Since two convicts Daud Korwa and Calvin Mauri were dropped off the court bus, the family of the victim has been trying to hit them from over the human chain formed by the police.
The riot was temporarily put off after the police made it to take the convicts into the court room.
However, as soon as the charges were announced, the victim’s family tried to pursue them. Fortunately, the police came to the rescue and brought them to the holding room.
Later, the family members that consist of dozens of people attempted to stall the vehicle on where the convicts will be taken to Abepura Prison.
The people then threw things to the car and kept trying to grab the convicts. The police finally fired a warning shot.
The shot did not apparently able to stop the commotion. The masses were even more provoked, which led to the police beating them with bats. Those who were caught throwing stones were chased, caught, stepped on and beaten up.
The clash eventually went down after the people were arrested. Meanwhile, both convicts were able to be evacuated to the prison.
In the charges read by the prosecuting attorneys, Akhmad Koparubun and Maksel Rambolangi said they were certain that the convicts were guilty.
“Each defendant is subjected to 15 years in prison,” the judge said on June 7.
Marlon Mra-mra was killed in February on Nggapulu Boat. Mra-mra was heading home to Jayapura after covering a story in Manokwari. He was stabbed with knife to death.
