VIVAnews - Hardliners gathering under the group named the Islam Defenders Front (FPI) will hold protest before the building of Goethe Institut in Jakarta, Indonesia, in an effort to be against the annual movie screening on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Q! Film Festival in the venue.
"We're on our way there and intend to crush gays and lesbians as well as their screening spot," said the coordinator of the protest, Habib Salim bin Umar Al-Attas, today.
According to him, the film festival is not in line with the Indonesian five principles of Pancasila.
"If the screening continues, we won't be of any assistance," he said.
In addition to holding protests, the FPI will send letter of disapproval against the film festival.
"This is uncivilized, and the FPI denies all this," he said.
Meantime, an associate of Goethe Institut's cultural programs, Dinyah Latukonsina, said that the Goethe Haus in Jakarta is indeed one of the spots for the movie screening.
Goethe Institut states that they have been informed of the action and has contacted the police for further anticipation.
"There's no postponement on the schedule. But I don't know what will be taking place today," she told VIVAnews.
Q! Film Festival is the second largest international film festival in Indonesia as well as the only movie screening on LGBT issues in a country having the largest Muslim population worldwide. The festival is the official partner of "Teddy Award" of the Berlinale.
