VIVAnews - Flashflood killed sixteen inhabitants of Skinu Village, Toianas Subdistrict, Timor Tengah Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday night, Nov 3. The village was inundated by water of two-meters high which swept away 182 homes. The flooding was a result of heavy rains pouring down on the village for two days.
A local authority, David Kase, said today that the flooding hit as Ponof River, one of the largest rivers in the area, overflew. "During the flashflood, people were mostly under deep sleep. No one knew that this was gonna happen. When the river overflew, they were trapped in their homes," said David.
South Timor Tengah Regent, Paulus Mella, visited the affected spots and was almost caught by the torrent of water when he was about to cross a river.
The flashflood has blocked aid distribution from entering the area.
"Report has that the flood killed 12 in D hamlet and another four in C hamlet," said Kornelis Lapsau, head of Skinu Village.
