VIVAnews - Asian countries, including Indonesia, are gaining more improvements in the economy and divert the attention of western countries to the East. The rising economy in Asia as a result causes the countries to join in the eastern economic order.
"The geo-political and geo-economical pendulum will swing toward the region," said ASEAN Partnership Director General of Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry, Djauhari Oratmangun, yesterday, Nov 23.
He said Indonesia plays an important role in backing up the ASEAN economy. Out of 565 million of ASEAN inhabitants, Indonesia is home of 40 percent of the population. Indonesia also records 50 percent of ASEAN's GDP of US$1.3 trillion.
"Moreover, China, Japan, and Korea also participate in the ASEAN economy under ASEAN +3. Next year, Russia and the United States will participate in the East Asian Summit," he said.
Oratmangun said the the cooperation between ASEAN and China as well as Indonesia and China has greatly benefited Indonesia.
He said that between 2005 and 2008, US$31.5 billion of profit from trading had been achieved. In two years (2009-2010), Indonesia and China had brought in US$25.5 billion from trade.
Indonesia and China have maintained 60 years of relations since 1950. During the 1950s, the relationship between the two countries was problematic. It was not until 1985 that Indonesia and China resumed their normal relations due to the signing of a trade partnership.
