VIVAnews - Hundreds of inhabitants of Jumoyo Village who live along the stream of Putih River are evacuated to a refugee camp due to volcanic mudflow on the river. Three hamlets are in danger of being swept away by the flooding.

Village Head of Jumoyo, Sungkono, who, like many Indonesians, uses one name, said the volcanic mudflow has caused 366 peple to flee their homes.

"The mudflow hit the Gempol Hamlet in Jumoyo Village," he said today, Dec 6.

Apart from Gempol Hamlet, other villagers are ready for evacuation should the volcanic mudflow occur in the future.

"In fact, the inhabitants of two hamlets took refuge yesterday. But they went home in the evening as soon as the water subsided," he said.

In Dowakan and Seloiring hamlets, the population reaches 323 and 779 respectively. The hamlets are located on a mudflow-prone area. "The dams have been ruined," he said.

According to him, the volcanic mudflow which took place yesterday was similar with the one occurred in 1969.

"Now, it happens again. A house was damaged by the mudflow," he said.
