Australia Doubles Fund for Transport Safety

VIVAnews - Australia has an interest in Indonesia as regards the strengthening of regional transport safety and security. The country has allocated $2.5 million of budget to support Indonesia for the advancement of the strategic sector.

"Australia has stepped up the dialogue and collaboration with the Indonesian Government on our joint efforts to make the skies and waterways within our region even safer," Australian Minister for Infrastructure and Transport concurrently Leader of the House Anthony Albanese said in a press statement.

He and Indonesian Minister of Transportation, Freddy Numberi, signed a memorandum of understanding on bilateral partnership  in transportation sector, which has taken place since 1995.

"In the last four years, Australia has invested more than $2.5 million to materialize transport safety in Indonesia," said Albanese.

Indonesia proceeds with on-going Indonesia Transport Safety Aid for the next four years at Aus$14.5 million.

Each year more than 1.3 million people travel between Australia and Indonesia, with millions more using the various modes of transport to get around the vast archipelago that is Indonesia. "Our joint efforts over the last three years have been about making sure they all arrive at their destinations safely," the minister said.
