VIVAnews - Indonesia records trade deficit with China by US$5.6 billion as it does more imports than exports.
The deficit is considered the largest in the Indonesia's trade balance.
Chief of the Central Statistics Agency, Rusman Heriawan, said the trade deficit is due to imports in machineries.
"More investments will certainly result in more imports in machineries. Such consumer goods as textile, textile products, and fruits do not contribute much in import value," said Rusman in Jakarta, Feb 1.
On the other hand, Indonesia mostly export commodities like coal, CPO, rubber, organic chemical materials, pulp, machineries and electric devices, wood, wooden goods, plastic and plastic goods.
Despite the trade deficit, Rusman calls on people to have positive view over the imports of Chinese goods.
Indonesia also books trade deficit by US$3.37 billion with Thailand and US$493 million with Singapore.
Meanwhile, as for its partnership with the US, Indonesia gains surplus by US$4.03 billion.
