VIVAnews - Volcanic mudflows which at times hit the slopes of Indonesia's most active volcano Mt Merapi have caused massive destructions. Code River, a main river streaming through Yogyakarta, sees as well the damages from the mudflows, of which restoration may require Rp 7.8 billion.
"A total of Rp 7.8 billion of budget will be allocated for repairment. The Yogyakarta Province will prepare Rp 5 billion for infrastructure improvement while the Yogyakarta Municipality will spare Rp 2.8 billion for restoration," said spokesperson of Yogyakarta administration, Totok Sutono.
Totok said the Yogyakarta administration is marred by accumulated volcanic materials on the Code River.
"We have difficulties in making use of heavy machineries on the Code River," he said.
"It requires Rp 200 million to insert those machines to the Code River," he said.
On the other hand, the project has only dredged 20 percent out of the total 350,000 cubic volcanic materials that Merapi sent through the Code River.
