VIVAnews - The South Jakarta District Court today will make decision over civil appeal filed by Hutomo Mandala Putra, son of former Indonesian president Soeharto, over state-owned airline PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk.
"We're convinced that we can win the case," said Hutomo's lawyer, Ferry Firman Nurwahyu, on Tuesday.
Hutomo, widely known by the nation as Tommy, sued Garuda Indonesia twice under personal and institutional grounds.
The lawsuit was proposed against an article entitled "A Destination to Enjoy Bali," published by Garuda Magazine in December 2009, which told stories about Pecatu, Bali, a tourist resort owned by Tommy.
The article attaches a paragraph which says, "Tommy Soeharto, an ex-killer, as concluded by the court, is the owner of the resort area."
As a result, Tommy filed a lawsuit as an individual as well as commissioner of PT Bali Pecatu against PT Indo Multi Media and Garuda Indonesia for Rp25 million of material losses and Rp25 billion of immaterial losses.
PT Bali Pecatu also demanded that both defendants published statement of apology on notable media such as Kompas, Tempo Magazine and Bisnis Indonesia.
