VIVAnews - Leaders of Swedish parliament were arriving in Jakarta today to pay three-day visit in this country. Led by the Sweden's parliament speaker, Per Westerberg, they will meet Indonesian political leaders, academicians, and NGOs.
Swedish Ambassador to Indonesia, Ewa Polano, said that this is an extraordinary visit considering that all the fraction leaders of Swedish parliament rarely come together to a foreign country.
In every four year electoral term, the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament - who is ranked number two after the King of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf - makes only two high level international visits together with all the heads of the party fractions, and the selection of these two countries is a reflection of the priorities of the Parliament.
For this electoral period they have chosen to visit Indonesia and Turkey. "The fact that Indonesia has been selected for the electoral period of 2010-2014 is a clear reflection of Parliament priorities," said Polano in her statement to VIVAnews.
"I also see this as yet another confirmation of the excellent bilateral ties between our countries and the steadily increasing interest in Sweden for Indonesia, a G-20 country with its progressive democracy development and the impressive performance in economic growth.”
The Speaker and his delegation will have meetings with the Chairman of the MPR, Taufiq Kiemas, the Chairman of the DPR Marzuki Alie, the Chairman of DPD Irman Gusman as well as several Commissions of the DPR. Furthermore, the Speaker will pay a visit to Vice President Boediono and meet with other high level representatives of the Indonesian government, including the climate change Chief Negotiator Rachmat Witoelar.
There will also be meetings with the leadership of KPK, with the Executive Director Rizal Sukma of CSIS, and with Dewi Fortuna Anwar, Deputy Secretary for Political Affairs at the Vice President’s office. Other meetings include the Swedish Business Associacion and Indonesian NGOs.
Apart from the Speaker of Parliament Per Westerberg (Moderate Party), the delegation consists of the party fraction leaders: Anna Kinberg Batra (Moderate Party), Mehmet Kaplan (Green Party), Johan Pehrson (Liberal Party), Björn Söder (Swedish Democrats), Hans Linde (Left Party), Roger Tiefensee (Centre Party), Mats Odell (Christian Democrats) and Parliament Secretary General Kathrin Flossing.
