Infant Traffickers Arrested

VIVAnews - Six women charged with infant trafficking were arrested by Jatiuwung Police Department, Tangerang, Banten, as they were about to sell a male infant at Villa Regency, Tangerang, Banten.

The perpetrators included Ivo, Chukmuk Cay, Yankey, Suelan, Lanni Wijaya and Ema Suwarno. The six criminals planned to sell the baby to a buyer in Medan, North Sumatra.

The baby was purchased for Rp 13 million (US$1,163) from a woman named Dora aka Ode, who is still under pursuit. An advance of Rp 3 million has been paid, while the remaining sum was to be settled after the baby was delivered to Medan.

The culprits had planned to do the transaction in Chinatown Glodok, Central Jakarta. The baby is now entrusted to Dinda Hospital, Tangerang, Banten.

"The case is being investigated," Head of Public Relations Division at Jakarta Police Department Zulkarnaen told VIVAnews on Monday, Jan 19.

The perpetrators will be charged with Article 2 No.21/2007 and Article 83/2003 on Human Trafficking and Child Protection. The evidence included the baby and a payment receipt.
