VIVAnews - The Malaysian government denies allegations saying that the Electoral Commission (EC) had committed electoral malpractices. The government argued that deceptive practices were impossible to carry out since the opposition won votes in five Malaysian provinces.
UMNO Secretary General, Tengku Adnan bin Tengku Mansor, said in Jakarta on Monday, July 11, that the mass protest was orchestrated by a party willing to drive out the administration. "That was a protest organized not by any NGO but the opposition," he said pointing out Malaysian political coalition Pakatan Rakyat that Anwar Ibrahim helms.
In his opinion, the elections are ruled by the Malaysian Electoral Commission (EC), an independent agency. The government is outside of any executive offices of the agency, which is not in turn enabling it to arrange the elections.
"Malpractices are not possible. Had there been any, the opposition would never have won votes in five provinces such as Kelantan, Kedah, Pulau Pinang and Perak. We have also in the Malaysian parliamentary 80 opposition representatives," said Adnan.
Adnan claimed the government and the incumbent party cannot mislead the people. He cited UMNO and Partai Barisan Nasional, which still stand in existence for around 21 years. "They're unlike the opposition, which manipulates the people to gain power. Barnas (Barisan Nasional) and UMNO won't take part in manipulation business. We win because we are entitled to win, and vice versa. Let's get into contest in the 2013 elections," said Adnan.
The UMNO secretary general said the opposition envies success achieved by the government in uniting the plural Malaysians under the headline of Islam.
"Just because you are irritated by a mosquito, you burn the mosquito curtain," he said quoting a Malay proverb.
