VIVAnews – Indonesia needs more investment to develop new renewable energy worth Rp134.6 trillion for the next 15 years. This is stated in the 2011-2025 Master Plan of Indonesian Economic Development Acceleration and Expansion.
Acting Director General of New Renewable Energy and Conservation at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Kardaya Warnika, said that the funds will be allocated for developing new renewable energy in such areas as Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, Bali-Nusa Tenggara and Papua-Maluku. “The funds are for the investment in infrastructure and power generator,” said Kardaya today in a press release.
According to Kardaya, the new renewable energy development is the government’s prioritized program with regard to alternative energy supply. Based on the government’s calculation, Sumatra requires investment amounting to Rp25.06 trillion, Java Rp86.3 trillion, Sulawesi Rp15.77 trillion, Bali-Nusa Tenggara Rp2.64 trillion and Papua-Maluku Rp4.83 trillion.
He went on to say that the government is putting out efforts to increase the use of renewable energy among the people through innovations. One of the innovations is the replacement of street lights throughout Indonesia with solar lights.
The Energy Ministry also proposed that the electricity used in department stores no longer be supplied by PT PLN, but rather solar panel-powered.
As regards herbal fuel development, the government will prioritize biofuel development with non-food raw materials, such as palm oil shells and castor oil. “If the raw material is edible, it will compete with food industry,” he said.
