Garuda Indonesia Aims at 16 Million Passenger

VIVAnews - PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk set the target of number of passengers to 16 million passengers by the end of this year. The target number of passengers is doubled compared to the first half of 2011.

"In the end of year the number of passengers is usually more than the first half," Garuda Indonesia Executive Vice President of Finance and Group CFO Elisa Lumbantoruan told VIVAnews.com in her office, Garuda Indonesia building, Cengkareng, Tangerang, Thursday, August 4, 2011.

Elisa said, in the first half of 2011, Garuda Indonesia's number of passengers reached 7.9 million people. Of these, 730,000 were passengers of Citilink. "So, the contribution of Citilink passenger was approximately 10 percent," she said.

The number of Garuda Indonesia passenger during the first half of 2011, she explained, rose 42.2 percent compared to the same period last year. In fact, Garuda's management is optimistic that the number of passenger will remains increasing up to the end of this year.

Elisa went on to say that the number tends to increase from quarter to quarter. In the first quarter, the passenger number is usually lower than subsequent quarters.

"So, seen from the figure of 7.9 million passengers, the minimum is doubled, or 16 million passengers by the end of the year," said Elisa.

Garuda Indonesia is currently in the process of preparing to make Citilink its subsidiary and to operate independently. The segregation will be conducted in the first quarter of 2012 at the earliest.

Currently, Citilink Garuda owns six aircrafts and later this year it will operate 10 aircrafts consisting of B-737 and A320. Citilink runs eight routes, namely from Jakarta, Surabaya, Batam, Banjarmasin, Denpasar, Balikpapan, Medan and Makassar.
