VIVAnews – The support for Indonesia in the New7Wonders event is flattening. Red arrow is pinned down on Komodo.
Komodo Island shares this downgrading with a number of contestants, including the Dead Sea (Israel, Jordan, Palestine) Grand Canyon (USA), Great Barrier Reef (Australia), Island of Maldives (Maldives), and Kilimanjaro (Tanzania). The votes for Halong Bay (Vietnam), Bu Tinah Island (Saudi Arabia), and Jeju Island (South Korea) are still better, though stagnant.
Meanwhile, a number of finalists have a rising trend of support. For example, the Amazon forest in Latin America, the 'Angel Falls' waterfalls of Venezuela, Bay of Fundy in Canada, Black Forest of Germany, also Taiwan-proposed Yushan.
As the committee explained, the trend indicator is updated on a weekly basis, of which data is constantly updated every Thursday. There are different indicators every week. The trends do not indicate the overall support for the contestant.
"New7Wonders will never reveal the contestant’s rank during the final phase (2009-2011), until the official New7Wonders is announced," so the New7Wonders website says.
Komodo competes with 27 other finalists. The last voting will be closed on November 11, 2011, which means less than 40 more days.
In this critical period, Komodo Island campaigning team pointed Jusuf Kalla as ambassador. The former vice president officially became the ambassador on September 30, 2011. A noble task awaits Kalla: he is expected to encourage and promote the voting for Komodo Island - the original habitat of unique animal that is native to Indonesia and deserves to be assets of the world.
When visiting Komodo island on Tuesday, Kalla said he was optimistic the targeted votes for Komodo can be achieved. About 100 million SMSes are required. "We have a large population. Mobile phone owners in Indonesia are about 150 million," said the former vice president.
According to Kalla, if Komodo is successfully listed in the seven wonders and announced to the world, the impact on the nation is huge. The regional economy can be elevated. "East Nusa Tenggara is now one of the poorest areas. I believe this problem can be solved instantly if we win. East Nusa Tenggara would be like Bali and Lombok," he said.
To Kalla, the bad experience that befall Borobudur must not be repeated. The temple of Indonesia’s pride was out of the list due to a short of vote.
