VIVAnews - Member of House of Representatives Commission IX, Chusnunia called on the Indonesian government to seek amnesty against the beheading sentence of Tuti Tursilawati, a migrant worker from Majalengka, West Java.

"The efforts are made through the Indonesian migrant worker (TKI), the Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI), the labor attaché, and most importantly the Foreign Ministry," said Chusnunia, in a statement received by VIVAnews, today.

The lobbying toward the king of Saudi Arabia by President SBY is on the go. However, in addition to the President’s letter to the King of Saudi Arabia, RI’s representatives in Saudi should intensify talks in pursuit of Tuti's freedom.

Based on Chusnunia's observations, a large number of agencies do not pay full attention to the workers. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the other hand cannot fully afford to seek amnesty for the workers in Saudi Arabia on the decapitation sentence.

House Commission IX tried to present analysis and case studies with a variety of surveillance programs over workers. It turns out that Indonesian migrant workers can actually participate in a work training prior to the placement. "In the training program, migrant workers can learn a lot of things such as language, religion, culture, local law, and so on," said Chusnunia.

Tuti Tursilawati, a resident of Cikeusik village, Sukahaji, Majalengka, West Java is facing a decapitation sentence. The migrant worker who was born in 1984 is convicted of killing her employer, Suud Malhaq Al Utibi by hitting the victim with a wooden stick.

This woman had reasons for hitting her employer. Tuti said her employer was about to sexually harass her. After the employer died, Tuti ran away and brought money worth 31,500 Arabian Real and a watch from her employer’s house.

The criminal proceedings of the Tuti case was done under the assistance of the Institute of Peace and Forgiveness: a common practice applicable in Saudi Arabia for seeking peace with the family of the victim.

However, it was reported that the victim's family did not forgive Tuti, and refused the diyya, or compensation in the form of fines. The victim's family appealed to the court in Saudi Arabia, asking the authorities to carry out the death penalty against Tuti after the 2011 Hajj season ends.
