VIVAnews - Indonesia plans to call off suspension on the placement of migrant worker in Malaysia as of the coming December 1, 2011. The governments of both countries have agreed to improve protection over the rights of Indonesian maids in the neighboring country.

The decision was the outcome of the annual meeting involving Indonesian and Malaysian leaders in Mandalika, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara Province, on October 20, 2011. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Prime Ministre Najib Razak were there to discuss the issue.

According to Bernama, Najib welcomes the lifting of maid placement freeze to Malaysia. "The moratorium will be lifted on the coming December 1," said Najib.

He said both countries had resolved all problems and obstacles to Indonesians becoming maids in Malaysia. The Indonesian government applied freeze on the sending of maids to Malaysia on June 26, 2009, following a number mistreatments committed on Indonesian maids working in Malaysia.

A Malaysian-Indonesian task force will submit a report to him and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak when they meet again at the Asean Summit in Bali on Nov 17.

Yudhoyono said the governments of both countries have agreed to provide protection and assistance to Indonesia's workforce, since they are contributing to the Malaysian economy.
