Bima Bombing Mastermind Facing Life Sentence

VIVAnews – Prosecutor demanded life sentence for Abrori bin Ali, the accused of Bima bombing case, during a trial in Tangerang District Court, today, Feb 15.

The leader of Umar bin Khatab Islamic boarding school (pesantren) is charged the mastermind behind the bombing and police killing in Bima. Abrori is also held accountable for brainwashing Moslem students to fight against law enforcement, such as the police, judges and prosecutors. 

In his demands, the prosecutor declared that Abrori clearly has violated Article 14 in conjuction with Article 7 of Law No. 15/2003 on Terrorist Crimes.

Abrori has assembled 27 piped explosives, collected arrows, firearms, and taught false jihad doctrines which have caused the loss of lives and helped spread public terror. 

“Therefore, under the consideration of law and justice, the accused is charged with life sentence,” stated the prosecutor, Rudi Gunawan.

Abrori alias Maskadof alias Abrori al-Ayubi produced smiles. The bearded man with the white cap even said that he will consider and defend himself against the prosecutor’s demand. 

“I will carry out my defense and rebuttal against these charges,” said Abrori to the panel of judges chaired by Iman Gultom. 

After hearing Abrori’s statement, the judges then decided to continue the proceedings next week. 

In addition to Abrori, another six defendants, namely: Asraf, Rahmat Hidayat, Rahmat bin Umar, Furqon, Sya’ban and Mustaqim, were also facing the same trial.  They were charged with 4 years of imprisonment by the prosecutor. 

Sya’ban was charged with heavier sentence of 17 years in jail because of his actions in attacking and bombing the Police Headquarters in Madapangga, Bima, which had resulted in the death of Brigadier Rahmat Suaifudin. 

An underage defendant, Mustaqim, was charged with 1.5 years of imprisonment, and he was immediately sentenced with 1 year in jail during the trial.
