World's Tallest Tower to be Built in Jakarta

VIVAnews - Jakarta Tower will soon beat the popularity of National Monument (Monas) as the icon of the Indonesia's capital Jakarta. The 558-meter-high tower is still under construction in the midst of Kemayoran Subdistrict, Central Jakarta. The allocated budget for the tower development reaches Rp 3 trillion (US$251.7 million).

"It is projected that the tower will be the highest tower in the world," Roesdiman Soegiarso, Director of PT Prasada Japa Pamudja, developer of Jakarta Tower, told VIVAnews on Wednesday, Feb 11.

The tower will be taller than the Canadian National Tower in Toronto, Canada (553 meters), Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai, China (460 meters) and Kuala Lumpur Tower in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (421 meters).

The Jakarta Tower will be developed as a telecommunication tower and multi-function broadcasting center. The tower will be a center of high-tech multimedia and telecommunication network.

As the next icon of Indonesia's capital, the tower, targeted to be in operation by 2012, will be promoted as a lifestyle center.

The tower is designed to be equipped with such facilities as 144-thousand-square-meter parking area, revolving restaurant, shopping malls, cafes, museum of Indonesian history, hotels, exhibition centers and multimedia center.
