VIVAnews – The House of Representatives plans to revise the Law on Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK). Some KPK’s authorities will be eliminated. Former Deputy Director of KPK, Mochamad Jasin, questioned the urgency of such plan.

“What is the urgency? Is it intended to support anti-corruption efforts? If it is to weaken, then don’t do it,” Jasin told VIVAnews, on Wednesday.

Jasin said the current KPK Law is still relevant. “If they fear that their colleagues will get investigated, it’s wrong. The revision is supposed to build up anti-corruption efforts,” he said.

Jasin said that KPK’s authorities to investigate, prosecute and take measure are integral in eradicating corruption.

“It is good that you (KPK) have the authority to prosecute, whereas we (Malaysia) must get in line for more than a year just to raise a case to prosecution,” Jason cited his Malaysian colleague.

Jasin said current parliamentary members, "should polish the system of democracy and shun money politics. Nowadays, the general election is just a waste of money. Moreover, it’s part of debts. After being elected, one must repay his loan back by way of corruption.”

Earlier, Chairman of Commission III of Legal Division of the House from the Democratic Faction, Benny Kabur Harman, said that KPK’s authorities must be reconsidered due to its failure in preventing corruption.

“KPK brings in more corruptors to prison. At the same time, corruption is prevalent,” said Benny.
