VIVAnews - Defendant of a graft case of SEA Games athlete's dorms development, Muhammad Nazaruddin, will face charges from attorneys in the corruption court today. Nazaruddin's lawyer, Junimart Girsand, believed his client will be pronounced not guilty by the panel of judges.
Junimart said the attorneys failed to prove that Nazaruddin had been bribed with Rp 4.6 billion of fund.
"KPK's attorneys must remain objective. The law specifies that any charge that is groundless is not possible as the funds worth Rp 4.6 billion cannot be presented before the court," he said.
The former treasury of the Democratic Party was charged of graft worth Rp 4.6 billion.
The attorneys only submitted five checks worth Rp 4.6 billion, which were not directly received by Nazaruddin but financial staffers of Permai Grup, Yulianis and Oktarina Furi. "It's not clear whether the checks were meant as bribes or gratification."
"Nazaruddin was charged with Article 5 Section 12 and Article 11 of Law on Anticorruption. Evidence should be presented. However, none of the evidence supports the case," he said.
