VIVAnews - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) figures the months of September and October will be the perfect time for the government to increase fuel prices.
"It's best for the government to rise fuel prices between March and April," said BPS Director of Price Statistics, Sasmito Hadi Wibowo, today.
Sasmita said prices of goods between March and April will normally be lower. The BPS claimed there is a slightest chance of inflation within the said months.
"It's common for the nation to have harvesting seasons in March-April and September-October," he said.
BPS in fact suggested the government to go on with the current prices of goods until around July. During the period, people will be enjoying holidays and fasting month of ramadan.
In the fasting month, consumption doubles compared to other months as people buy more foods.
"In September, consumption rate decreases following the lebaran. October will stage the second harvesting season. The first ideal period to rise fuel prices will be March-April, then the second one will be September-October," he said.
Sasmita claimed the proposed fuel price rise of Rp 1,500 per liter will not hugely affect the inflation rate. In fact, the government is expected to reach the set inflation rate of plus-minus 6 percent. "It won't get to 6.8 percent," he said.
