VIVAnews - Former treasurer of the Democratic Party, Muhammad Nazaruddin, was given four years and 10 months in prison by the panel of judges at the Anti-corruption Court chaired by Dharnawati Ningsih, today. Prosecutors earlier demanded seven years of imprisonment.
The panel of judges said Nazaruddin proves violating Article 11 of Law No.31/1999 - of which revision is Law No.20/2001 on amendment over Law No.31/1999 - on corruption eradication.
In the indictment, prosecutors viewed Nazaruddin guilty of receiving gratification.
"[Nazaruddin is subject to] a minimum imprisonment of one year and maximum prison sentence of five years with a fine of between Rp50 million and Rp250 million," said member of the panel of judges, Herdi.
In the first indictment, Nazaruddin was facing seven years in prison. Prosecutors also requested the judges to fine the defendant Rp300 million and subsidiary detainment of six months.
Prosecutors said Nazaruddin the lawmaker deliberately received five traveler checks worth Rp4.6 billion from PT Duta Graha Indah through Oktarina Furi, his staff at PT Permai Group.
