VIVAnews – Ministry of Justice and Human Rights pointed out several hubs of computer software piracy, such as Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek).

"Jabodetabek is the largest supplier [of illegal softwares] throughout Indonesia," said Investigation Director at the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights (Ditjen KHI) of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights (Kemenkumham), Fathlurahman, to VIVAnews.

According to Fahhlurahman, the pirated products from the region are marketed throughout Indonesia. The allegation is made firm during the sweepings of pirated softwares in two shopping centers in South Jakarta, Ratu Plaza and Mal Ambassador, in early April 2012.

Both shopping malls were picked as a huge number of pirated softwares' sellers in Jakarta pay for spots there.  The authority could seize 7,436 illegal or pirated CDs from the area.

“One PC was seized as well. It was used to install unlicensed softwares,” said Fathlurahman.

The sweepings were conducted jointly with the Indonesian Anti Counterfeiting Society (MIAP), Business Software Alliance (BSA), Police Department, and the Association of Intellectual Property Rights Consultants (AKHKI) since 16 February 2012.

Fathlurahman urged people to raise their awareness of the importance of copyrights. “Consistent campaign on the importance of copyrights must be carried out,” he said.

One form of campaign conducted is about software copyright protection in the form of law enforcement against offenses by the Civil Servant Investigators (PPNS).
