Head of Public Relations and Information Center of the Ministry of Communications and Information, Gatot S Dewa Broto, said that the spam messages will not disappear accordingly.

“We can't say that [spam messages] will no longer be around. At least, they can be reduced,” Gatot told VIVAnews on Wednesday.

Provided the new scheme, spammers will think twice to broadcast messages, including free promotional SMSes.

“There may still be incoming spam SMSes. Yet, spammers must be prepared with the risk of charges imposed,” he said.

Cheap SMS

Gatot said despite of the paid scheme, SMS tariff will be lower. He went on to say that the actual SMS tariff being set is high. Most people do not realize that the cheap rates imposed are subjects to certain terms and conditions.

Moreover, Gatot is certain that operators will not raise SMS tariff taking into account the tight competition among mobile operators.

“Raising the tariff will be risky,” he said.
