Hary Tanoe's Road to Indonesia KPK

VIVAnews - Hary Tanoesoedibjo, owner of PT Bhakti Investama, a company with Rp19 trillion worth of assets, said he would answer to the Corruption Eradication Commission’s summons today, June 15. Why has the Commission finally decided to call for the businessman, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Experts of the National Democratic Party?

Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) are looking into the connection between James Gunardjo and PT Bhakti Investama, including PT Agis Tbk, whose offices are both located in one building.

James Gunardjo was arrested by KPK's investigators on Wednesday, June 6, due to bribery allegation over former Tax Office Supervision and Consulting Head of Sidoarjo, East Java, Tomy Hindratno.

James and Tomy had been picked up at a restaurant on Jalan Abdullah Safii, Tebet, South Jakarta. The investigators seized an envelope containing Rp285 million from both men.  

On 8 June 2012, KPK searched Bhakti Investama’s office. According to the company’s attorney, KPK confiscated some documents. “They were the 2010 tax documents and Bhakti’s tax restitution documents,” said Andi Simangunsong, the company’s lawyer, to VIVAnews on Monday.

Hary Tanoesoedibjo claimed that the news about his company was exaggerating and unreasonable.

“It was an allegation of tax fraud. It doesn't make any sense,” said Hary in a press conference in Jakarta, on Wednesday. 

He then revealed Bhakti’s assets of Rp19 trillion, with tax liabilities of almost Rp1.2 trillion in 2011.

In addition to the tax fraud allegation, rumors about bribery and tax refund are also circulating. “We don't know Tomy from Sidoarjo and James,” he said.
