"It's still difficult because sometimes they [the victims] want to get smuggled for economic reason," said Wirajuda in Bali on Wednesday, April 16.

Therefore, human trafficking syndicate is a complex issue and cannot be dealt only in bilateral scope.

"We need to find the solution by studying the problem's root," Wirajuda explained before opening the 3rd Bali Regional Ministerial Conference (BRMC) on people smuggling, trafficking in persons and related transnational crime at Westin Hotel, Nusa Dua Bali on Wednesday, April 15.

Apart from economic reason, there is another issue which is related to political pressure, such as war or conflict situation like in Afghanistan and this condition pushes people to find refugee.

When being asked about the Rohingya immigrants, the minister said that the real solution of the issue is by repatriating the immigrants. The Rohingya issue is going to be discussed in the forum but it has not become a priority.

"If [we] find the motive, and [eventually] their problem is based on economic reason, they are willing to be returned home after given trainings. To perform repatriation is easier in Asia-Pacific than in Africa or Latin America," he explained further.

Wirajuda said that Indonesia and Australia will act as co-chairs in order to facilitate the forum. By doing so, it is expected to have various opinions from other member countries and participants.

BRMC or also known as the Bali Process is an important framework that has succeeded by establishing an immigration practitioner and law enforcer network in the area.
