VIVAnews - The Institute for the Studies on Free Flow of Information (ISAI) urged the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) to delay the legalization of the State Secrets Draft Bill into Law due to its potential of forming an authoritative administration.
According to ISAI’s Advocacy, Research and Media Watch Program, Ahmad Faisol, in the State Secrets Draft Bill, which is currently being discussed, the President would have the authority to define a state secret.
“That means the Law would create an opportunity for the President and other government officials to define a state secret whenever they want to,“ Faisol said during a press conference at the Nikko Hotel in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 5.
Certainly, ISAI is not only requesting a delay. The information watch company also demands several revisions such as removing the accumulated power of the President by establishing supervision mechanisms and setting up punishment mechanisms for careless information administrators who cause information to leak.
“State Secrets Law would only oversee strategic and national security-related information,” Faisol said.
