Indonesia Collaborates with India on Fashion

VIVAnews - Indonesian fashion is spreading its wings and it is marked by this year’s Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) following the success of the event last year. After initially being planned to be held on November 11 to 15, JFW 09/10 will apparently be conducted longer from November 14 to 20 at the Pasific Place, Jakarta.

Over 60 fashion designers from various regions in Indonesia will showcase their works. The event, which will be held by the Femina Group, attempts to bring together the fashionistas, style observers, celebrities and the media to a location where they could see the trends and designs created by Indonesia’s remarkable designers.

“The dynamics of our designers and the hard work of our entrepreneurs are the important elements that must be combined in order to empower Jakarta in becoming regional fashion industry,” JFW 09/10 Project Officer, Svida Alisjahbana said at the JFW 09/10 press conference at Indochine, FX, Jakarta.

JFW 09/10 will be fully supported by the Jakarta Provincial government and the Trade Department. The event is expected to make Indonesia’s fashion industry more competitive and known by the world.

“Tourism and Culture Agency of Jakarta Provincial government is very much supporting Jakarta Fashion Week. The sustainable event will be able to combine the potential and the resources of fashion industry to form a competitive character, “Head of Jakarta Provincial Government’s Tourism and Culture Agency at the press conference.

At the JFW 09/10, fashionistas will be shown various designs which diffuse Indian and Indonesian culture. Indonesian designers Priyo Oktaviano and Sebastian Gunawan will collaborate with Indian designers Tarun Tahiliani and Malini Ramani.

Tahiliani and Ramani will be brought to Indonesia to choose and work on Indonesia’s signature cloths. The Indonesian designers will also visit India to pick Indian traditional garments to be made into clothes with the touch of Indonesia.
