VIVAnews - The Garuda XX-F contingent, a part of UN peacekeeper troops in Congo, received a certificate of recognition from the highest commander of the UN mission in Congo on Tuesday, October 13. The UN considers Garuda performing well in supporting the peacekeeping mission in the area.
Communication officer of Konga Unit XX-F/MONUC Kongo Captain Inf Leo Sugandi says in his e-mail that the recognition was given to the Engineering Company (IEC) Garuda Contingent XX-F led by Major Czi Sugeng Haryadi Yogopranowo.
The UN assumes Garuda has shown a remarkable ability and consistency in every assignment during its work as a peacekeeping force in Dungu and Beni, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
As reported by dephan.go.id, the performance of the Indonesian contingent is based on the number of tasks, quality and the level of task difficulties.
General Lieutenant Babacar Gaye as Monuc highest commander awarded a really high appreciation to Garuda for its dedication in Kongo, especially for the Dungu-Duru roadwork project that is considered crucial for the sustainability of the UN military operation in Kongo and the economic activities of the locals.
According to Gaye, as stated by the e-mail, the Indonesian force gave a significant contribution to the mission in Congo such as the building of Morocco Battalion Command Base in Dungu and the Company Operational Base in Duru which allowed the UN to send its troops further to northeast off Congo where conflicts in Sudan, Uganda and Congo have been taking place.
“The certificate of recognition also includes the list of assignment which have been completed by the IEC like the establishment of camps for the UN humanitarian agencies, Munoc administration and logistic supporting office buildings, water shelters, camps for Morocco medical team contingent, DDRRR (Disarmament, Demobilization, Repatriation, Reintegration and Resettlement) location, Dungu mayor office building renovation and the maintenance of Dungu airport.
The Garuda XX-F contingent has given a major support to the Rudia operation (Monuc and FARDC/ Kongo national army joint operation) in overcoming the LRA (Lord’s Resistence Army) problem which was the initial problem of security issues in Uganda, Sudan and Congo.
